Leadership starts from the ground up through encouraging employees to discover their personal and professional passions in order to create a balance in life.

– Jay Barbour

Jay Barbour – President

Born and raised in Colorado, I joined the Marines after high school, served in Desert Storm, and after my honorable discharge, moved to Arizona to begin the biggest adventure of my life: mortgages.

With more than two decades of mortgage experience under my belt, I always envisioned a place where people are the priority – a club for tenured and seasoned mortgage professionals that collectively run efficiently to provide customers with the ultimate experience, and VIP was born.

At VIP, our culture emphasizes unity and family. Here, everyone believes in making this company better because it’s OUR company. Our crew embraces the entrepreneurial freedom to be creative and successful, without having the liability of running a company. By providing an innovative organization that delivers the best origination platform and mortgage tools, we attract employees committed to learning, growing and always improving. We promote an attitude that encourages employee’s optimism and problem solving.

It is my personal goal to make the borrowing experience something customers want to tell their friends and family about. They do this because of the personal service VIP provides in making them feel like they mattered, because they do.

Keith Teegardin – SR. V.P.

Mortgages are in my blood. Born into the business as the son of 35-year mortgage veteran Jack Teegardin, I am a passionate leader who thrives in management and identifying top contenders that are both compliant and ethical to add to our VIP family. I take great pride in ensuring our sales force can’t be beat. Product training, QC training and fraud training are basic foundational fundamentals of building a career-minded sales force with me.

Born and raised in beautiful Colorado, I earned my finance degree from Colorado State University in 1993, and moved to Arizona where I joined Waterfield Financial and grew my origination business into President Club status and closed the most units in Arizona as an originator thanks to our incredible builder process.  Later I took part in combining our resale and construction/builder platform and co-managed the Arizona region leading our company with the most closed units, volume and revenue as a branch for seven years.   Our Arizona office become the largest and most profitable branch in the company. In 2007, I joined my lifelong friend Jay Barbour in starting VIP Mortgage.

Jack Teegardin – Business Development

I am a veteran of the mortgage industry with nearly 50 years of experience, starting fresh out of college when I graduated from the University of Denver with a major in Building Industry and Real Estate. For almost 35 years I helped build the sales organization at Waterfield Financial, serving as the National Sales Manager and Executive Vice President. I was a top originator mainly because I believed in building relationships for life. My biggest passion in life is people, I love to help people get to where they want to be.

Since 2007, I have been lucky enough to work with my son Keith and his business partner, Jay Barbour, the owners of VIP. In my current role in Business Development, I help coach and develop people to become industry leaders. Our goal is to build a quality company – not to be the biggest but to be the most respected lender in the industry.

John Suggs – VP, Process Management

I am originally from Michigan and received my bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Oakland University and master’s in Finance from Walsh College. I began my career with Comerica, holding various positions before rising to Vice President. After 10 years, I joined Ford Motor Credit and helped them create an Industrial Bank as its Chief Credit Officer and in that time, formed the company’s Bank Credit Policy Manual and other bank policies; improved proprietary scorecards; and published reports covering the full credit lifecycle. In 2010, I found myself diving back into the mortgage industry, this time, as Chief Risk Officer for one of the nation’s largest and most respected lenders. My responsibilities included identifying and mitigating all risk that could harm the company’s reputation and/or financial sustainability; ensuring that the company is continuously improving its key manufacturing processes; and overseeing compliance to state and federal regulations.

Since joining VIP, my priority is overseeing the successful implementation of all company strategic initiatives. I directly manage the strategic projects in varying degrees to ensure their success. This position is also responsible for continuous improvement, documentation and measurement of all operational process flows.

Amber Stamsta – Controller

I joined VIP in 2009 as controller and oversee the accounting department. With nearly 20 years in this business, I have built my success in serving the internal customers at companies. I believe that efficient care of the employees affords them the opportunity to perform to the best of their abilities. My goal is to quickly and accurately help our employees, so that they can get back to what they do best – helping their customers. This philosophy particularly holds true at VIP where team building is a huge part of our customer service approach. We recognize that a team-oriented environment optimizes the overall success of our organization. While each employee serves a specific function, those functions serve our bigger picture – to be a leader in the mortgage industry with a commitment to excellence. We build a team and then the team builds the business.

Mike Metz – Operations

Born and raised here in sunny Arizona, I obtained my degree from the University of Arizona. Following graduation, I made the move to VIP, where I was attracted to their focus on customer service and small business feel. I joined the operations side and loved the efficiencies and camaraderie in the company culture. I worked a variety of positions, gaining experience in quality control, processing and appraisals. Along the way, I decided I wanted to work directly with clients to help make the financing process as easy as possible for them! When working with clients, I’m very careful to spend extra time with the client up front to fully educate them on the process and their options.

I combine that preparedness and my education from working in operations to ensure timely closings. I’m proud to say that I’ve closed every loan on time or early over the past two years, and have received great reviews from my clients. My passion for education and desire to give back to the community resulted in the Loan Officer University. We recruit fresh faces to the industry and train them in the operations side before helping them with their licensing. We’ve successfully trained multiple new mortgage bankers who follow my same core values: excellent technical skills and customer service. I still originate and focus on helping and educating my clients. I particularly love working with first time homebuyers, veterans and self-employed clientele to ensure all three groups get the attention and service they deserve.

Denise Taylor – EVP, Risk Management

I have been in the mortgage industry for nearly 30 years, beginning as a new file set-up clerk at a family-owned mortgage bank in Illinois. During those nine years, I worked in all aspects of the loan process, eventually working as processing manager and direct endorsement underwriter. In 1992, I moved to Arizona and continued advancing in my career. I know this business inside and out, having worked in so many capacities including management of processing, closing, underwriting, quality control to my current position as executive vice president.

I love working at VIP. Teamwork is the name of the game and I am in awe of the support we all have for one another. The company’s vision is inspiring; its commitment, indescribable, and I am so proud of the culture we are building.

Chris Janssen – SVP, Branch Support and Production

I grew up in a small town in Central Wisconsin and started my career there as a loan officer. I worked for a large non-depository lender for 13 years and was fortunate to learn the business from the ground up, processing loans and working my way up to the executive level.

Working at VIP takes me back to those early days with its small, family company culture. Regardless of how big VIP grows, the company is rooted in good values, integrity and relationships.
